Throughout history, human dwellings have played a pivotal role in the development of civilization. From the fundamental need for protection against the elements to the creation of art and architecture that shaped edifices and structures, human habitation has been a driving force behind progress.
The construction of buildings has been a constant endeavor since the dawn of time. A house, for instance, serves as a sanctuary, providing shelter and safety to its inhabitants. Similarly, cathedrals and temples fulfill humanity’s spiritual aspirations, offering a space for worship and devotion.
Architecture emerged as a distinct discipline when humanity began not only constructing edifices but also creating them with a purpose. However, the psychological connection between humanity and architecture is particularly relevant to the objectives of this project. Particularly, how architecture affects humans in an emotional level.
Humanity and architecture are deeply intertwined, each serving a specific purpose. A large plaza, for example, fosters interaction and evokes a sense of freedom through its expansive design. A home or office, on the other hand, provides a sense of security and shelter. High-rise structures in metropolitan centers can evoke feelings of insignificance or oppression when traversed, while churches offer a sense of peace and comfort. Alternatively, they can serve as perceived paths or portals, guiding individuals through their journeys. Even traces of humanity, even when absent, can be perceived, and temporary structures can serve specific purposes.
Every architectural structure possesses a purpose and function, striving to be practical while considering aesthetics within its architectural era. This era is defined by the materials, technology, and cultural values of the location where the structure is situated.
